Welcome to ENABLE Welcome to the website of the ENABLE project. ENABLE supports the governmental sectors of education, water and health in developing countries by building their capacities regarding the role that renewable energy technologies can play in meeting their sectoral goals.
The aim of ENABLE is to develop awareness of the opportunities to use renewable energy to meet poverty reduction targets in the sectors of health, education and water in East Africa.
ENABLE will provide capacity building to the local and national government personnel in the energy, health, education and water sectors in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to aid the identification of renewable energy projects.
Ultimately, the project will result in increased political awareness among high level decision-makers in the targeted ministries of the important role that energy and renewable energy in particular, can play in poverty reduction.
ENABLE is supported by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy and Transport (DG TREN), as a COOPENER action through the Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) programme. The COOPENER actions of the IEE programme aim to support and stimulate the activities of the European Energy Initiative (EUEI) for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development. | | ENABLE and the EUEI
The European Energy Initiative for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development focuses on better access to sustainable energy services for the world’s “energy poor”.
It was launched in 2002 at the Johannesburg World Summit for Sustainable Development to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It seeks to create a focus on better access to sustainable energy services for the more than two billion people without a reliable supply of energy on our planet.
ENABLE will support the activities of the European Energy Initiative for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development by providing capacity building in the areas of health, education and water, all of which are sectors which feature in the MDGs. Actions through the ENABLE project will be driven by the needs and priorities of the participating developing countries.
